Definition – Strong and Healthy; Hardy; Vigorous.
I don’t know about you but being robust sounds like a pretty good idea and especially important to athletes. We often see people who are willing to train hard and eat well, but are you looking after yourself optimally to achieve true robustness?
It is common in a chiropractic practice to see seemingly fit and active clients that have fallen victim to the ‘all I did was bend over to do up my shoelaces and my back went’ scenario. The shoelace analogy can be replaced with other frequently used happenings such as sneezing, lifting, turning, standing, reaching etc etc the list goes on.
These are what I would classify as ‘non-traumatic’ events, so why is it so common to ‘put your back out’ when you’re not physically exerting yourself?
The main reason is your lack of ‘robustness’. You can be extremely fit and strong and still suffer from regular bouts of pain from seemingly small, insignificant events.
How do ‘non-traumatic’ events cause injury?
Injury is a process and not an event. Stresses on the body such as repeated poor posture, sitting, repetitive movements, inactivity and overactivity all carry certain stresses (some more than others). It is the repetitiveness of these stresses that accumulate over time until one day it gets to the point of the ‘final straw’ and pain/injury sets in.
By limiting the amount of daily physical, emotional and chemical trauma you can live a pain free life, allowing you to perform at an optimum.
BUT you need to be proactive in your approach.
Chiropractic – a proactive approach for robustness
Chiropractic adjustments help to maintain, restore and correct movement of joints and muscles, which literally changes how your brain and nervous system perceives pain and movement! Muscles will start to fire properly and joints will move correctly – therefore reducing incidents of injury and making you a more robust human being.
Chiropractic is just one strategy that top athletes use to help achieve and maintain their robustness. If you want to train and compete at your best get in touch with us here at Twickenham Chiropractic Health Centre.
